Privacy Policy
This policy covers the Job Forensic Chrome extension: how we handle your account, the job tab you capture, and catalog insights.
Who we are
Job Forensic (“we”, “us”) provides a Chrome extension and related APIs that help you read hiring signals on a job posting you already have open. The product website is https://jobforensic.com/.
What the extension does
When you click Capture this tab, the extension reads the active job page in your browser, extracts structured fields on your device, and — after you sign in — asks the Job Forensic API for catalog insights such as ghost-job risk, listing age, and hiring activity. Results appear in the toolbar popup and optional side panel.
The extension does not run on every site in the background. Capture happens only on the tab you choose, after a user action.
Data we process
Account. To capture tabs and load analytics you create a Job Forensic account. We process:
- Email address
- Password, handled by Amazon Cognito; we do not store your password in the extension
- Session tokens (access, ID, and refresh tokens) in
chrome.storage.local
Captured job details. Parsing runs in the browser from the page you capture. Fields can include:
- Page URL, title, company, location, department, employment type, and posted date
- ATS job id, source board (for example Greenhouse or Lever), and extracted skills
- Compensation text when it is present on the page
- A cleaned job description used to request catalog insights
Raw page HTML is read locally to extract those fields. It is not uploaded as a full HTML dump.
Catalog insights. After sign-in, the extension may send structured job fields to the Job Forensic API so we can return ghost risk, days open, stale/repost markers, and company hiring activity. If the board is not in the catalog yet, the extension may request that the board be added using the company name, schedule URL, and initial job record.
Local state. The last capture, capture progress, session, and a short-lived maintenance flag are stored in chrome.storage.local on your machine so the popup can restore them.
Data we do not collect
- Browsing history, or the contents of tabs you do not capture
- Payment card data
- Precise location beyond whatever the job posting itself lists
- Advertising identifiers or third-party analytics SDKs in the extension
How we use the data
- Authenticate you and keep your session signed in
- Show parsed job details and catalog analytics in the popup and side panel
- Look up or onboard a job board in the Job Forensic catalog
- Operate, secure, and debug the service, including a maintenance flag
We do not sell your personal information. We do not use captured job pages for advertising.
Who processes data on our behalf
- Amazon Cognito (AWS, region
us-east-1) for sign-up, sign-in, email confirmation, and password reset - Job Forensic API hosted on AWS (Lambda Function URL in
us-east-1) for catalog insights, onboarding, and feature flags
Those processors see only what is required for the request: Cognito sees account credentials and tokens; the API sees your bearer token and the structured job fields described above.
Storage, location, and retention
Account and API data are processed in the United States. Session tokens and the last capture remain on your computer until you sign out, clear extension storage, or uninstall the extension. Catalog records associated with a captured job may be retained on our servers so we can return insights for that board. You can ask us to delete your account data using the contact options below.
Your choices
- Do not sign in, or sign out from the popup or side panel
- Uninstall the extension, which removes local Chrome storage for Job Forensic
- Request access, correction, or deletion of account data by contacting us
If you are in a region with additional privacy rights (including the EEA, UK, or California), you may also have the right to object to or restrict certain processing. Contact us to exercise those rights.
Children
Job Forensic is for people looking at professional job postings. It is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their data.
Changes
If this policy changes, we will update the date above and post the new version at https://jobforensic.com/privacy. Material changes may also be noted on https://jobforensic.com/.
